This means that not only is your damage going to get a large bonus against tough enemies like Corrupted Heavy Gunners, but it also means that when you do proc an elemental status, it will always be a Corrosive proc, which reduces there armor, causing you to deal even more damage. So with the first setup, all your damage is either IPS or Corrosive. And for lower level enemies, while I suppose raw damage is better than status, it doesn't really matter either way so there's no sense in switching builds just to be more effective against enemies that die in 1 or 2 hits anyway. Against high level enemies, having all of your damage focused into the most effective element and having a high status chance is much more powerful than having higher raw damage but having it be of a bad damage type with a bad status proc and lower status chance.
